Blog only: Statement:
I very rarely lose it but I am absolutely disgusted at comments allowed on Thai Visa.com in the news cuttings section ‘Boy drowned under whirpool in Pattaya Park’ and this is after censorship by the board’s moderators. This is about a 14-year-old boy Nathan Clark a British boy who drowned a couple of days ago.
These comments by arrogant idiots clearly do not represent the views of most posters. However I feel personally ashamed that I might even come from the same country as these people. So moderators , if you have any sense of public decency, please delete them now.
Who moderates the moderators? They have been tactfully pointed in the right direction (or in some cases TOLD) on many occasions to show consideration for families etc but the requests fall largly on deaf ears. I further note their willingness to allow ‘Embassy-bashing’ threads to run unchecked, even if the matter in question falls outside their remit (see their thread on VFS).
The answer to my opening question would be for them to appoint moderators with some knowledge/experience in their chosen fields rather than leaving the task to anonymous muppets who happen to be part of the ‘in’ crowd.
Disclaimer; some of their team can be reasonable. Others, despite 20-30,000 posts (& too much time on their hands) feel they’re beyond reproach. The same can be said for many of their posters. Advertisers of repute surely wouldn’t want to be associated with an organisation attracting such controversy.
Railing against Thaivisa is pointless. It is a forum for the essentially stupid, ignorant and deranged whose numbers increase daily reflecting the demographic of those lured to Thailand for reasons other than tourism. Threads pontificating upon mishaps such as the appalling accident in this case generate great interest and justify the advertisng rates charged by the site’s owner. Why on earth do you think quality of posting should be anything other than aimed at the lowest common denominator?
It’s all about the money. What’s taste got to do with it?
Incidentally, you ‘ lose ‘ it not ‘ loose ‘ it.
The education level of some of the posters there is undoubtedly low. They seem to be mostly from the Chang Beer set. This is no doubt the dregs of falang society in Thailand. Their expertise on visa matters is questionable to say the least with one poster, I believe a senior member, thinking he is the absolute top adviser on this in the land. I once posted something there in rebuttal of his claims and I know I was right. The comment was not derogatory or insulting in the least. It was instantly deleted. I believe ego is one of their moderators major problems. I never posted again there and only occasionally look at it anymore.
Couldn’t agree more.
When I went for my visa extension this year my wife told the lady (same very nice woman for past 9 years) that I had checked Thaivisa.com for any rule changes. She said without looking up “that’s a website for people who shouldn’t be here” and looking at some of the posters she is probably right.
I am one of many people I know who started to read ThaiVisa, was appalled at the ignorance and arrogance of the regulars there, was ridiculed by them for not agreeing with their views and so left and would never return. The owner, has a following in his own image - uneducated, hostile, unethical and very opinionated. As someone else has said, a site for the lowlife who come here because they can’t function in their own country. I am amazed anyone advertises there and wants to be associated with it at all!
Westerby thank you for pointing out spelling error (lose not loose). I have corrected it. Quite clearly I did lose it.
Ok that’s it for now. No more posts about Thai Visa.com. Not because I am a control freak, or indeed that I even disagree, but I just wanted them to get their act together as there is a family involved. It was not my intention to start a rant against them.
They have now sensibly closed off this particular thread.
Thank you all for your interest.
Kudos to Drummond for recognising that most of his commenters are trolls and cutting off the flamefest. He was right that some threads get out of hand here, but generally speaking we mods are not time travellers, psychic, or on line every moment of every day on every thread- so it will take some time to resolve issues. As usual, may I remind our readers that if you find an objectionable post you only have to use the REPORT button to draw instant mod attention to the matter. To that extent, problems on the forum will be taken care of more quickly if our readers will simply let us know about them.
ijustwanna teach. Thank you. This reply published in fairness as this appears to be an answer from a moderator at ThaiVisa.com. The reply contains advice which if acted on will pre-empt either myself of the father of the next victim from having to make a complaint.
Just a reminder. I’m still getting posts on this subject but the thread is closed so they will not be placed here. However I am still reading them.
Nobody Important: Thank you for your kind words. Once again I would post it here, but I have made a decision to discontinue this thread as TV has made appropriate corrections.
Posts criticising actions by Thai Visa.com and the quality of their staff/moderators are still coming in fast and furiously despite the fact that it is technically closed. Some of it is actually quite personal. Some from ex moderators. I’m not that technically minded to close it without deleting the whole thread.
But James from Chiang Mai (also banned from Thai Visa apparently) thanks very much. You had me in stitches.
Yes. I have been to a Thai Visa party once. I sneaked into the one at the Sin Bar in Bangkok quite some time ago with phoney badge.
Hi Andrew,
Why did you close comments on this thread? I repeatedly come across rumors about Thaivisa’s misbehavior, but so far I haven’t found anything specific. Providing a place for an open discussion on this matter would actually be a valuable contribution to the Thailand expat community.
I’ve been following the Thaivisa forum for a few months now and found their visa section quite helpfull and informative. The moderators seem to be reasonable enough, and I guess the member comunity reflects Thailand’s expat community in real life including of course the typical frustrated and ranting ignorants (or you tell me since you’ve been around for much longer than I ve been). Wheras those people constantly annoy me, I know that so a certain degree this is what you will find in any public expat forum for Thailand. (If you know one that is different, please tell me!!)
To be fair, I certainly know that the comment section is not a suitable place to shed light on Thaivisa policies and bring forward an open and constructive discussion, nevertheless I am desperate to see such.

There’s nothing wrong with Thai Visa that a bit of sensible editing could not solve. Not many mods have a sensible editing background it seems though. The first rule of the game is not to let personal matters affect your judgement.
Somebody should have used a bit of common sense and decency on this one.
Then again the more controversial they are - the more posters.
Those in it to excercise power for the sake of it should really be wiped.
They say they cannot watch everything all the time. That’s not really what is coming across tho.
I’m not yet sold on their belated decency.
CLOSED!
More bad news for Thai Visa, shame has I always rated it though when the ex admin got convicted of child abuse did make me look elsewhere.
Hope they can get out of this mess of poor hitlerite moderation too
TV is a far cry from its golden heyday back in 2001 - 2006.
Now the moderators run rampant with their own agenda, George counts the money and there are few decent posters left on there.
A.D We at OTRT initially thought you as little better than TV.
However we can now say we were wrong and anyone who makes a stand against TV is ok in our book
